HOWTO create lzh archives and upload them to PV

If you ever asked yourself how to create LHA archives for use with PVAddInManager or TextViewer, you may find this document useful.

You will need these files.

  • Explorer.exe (this one comes with your OS ;-)
  • PVM.exe (this one comes with your PV)
  • PowerArchiver (a freeware archiver, get it from www.powerarchiver.com)
2003-05-31: PowerArchiver is no longer free. Search the internet for the file powarc55.exe to get the older and free version.
  • adtgui.exe (get it from My Casio Pocket Viewer Chaos)

Imagine you have some text files in some folders. When you open Explorer and navigate to your folder you may find something like this.

When you right-click on "pvtexts" you get a context menu which should contain something like this.

If you do not have these items in your context menu you can correct the options of PowerArchiver. In the main menu of PowerArchiver choose "Options" and then "Configuration". Ensure you have enabled the click box "Compress to LHA...".

Back to the context menu in Explorer. When you select "Compress to LHA + Options..." you will get this dialog.

Be sure to select "Normal - Frozen5" as compression method.
Click on "OK" and you will get the file "pvtexts.lzh". It will be created at the same level as the compressed folder.

For this example I've moved it into the folder "pvtexts" by hand. I've also created two shortcuts, one to adtgui.exe, the other to PVM.exe. Normally you will have these shortcuts on your desktop.

Explorer will show this.

Now you can drag the file "pvtexts.lzh" and drop it onto the "adtgui" shortcut.

By this you will create the file "pvtexts.lzh.adt".

To transfer "pvtexts.lzh.adt" to your PV, simply drag it and drop it onto the "PVM" shortcut.

Voila, file transfer will start. Don't forget to activate download on your PV.
